Why a daily GLP-1 is a different tracking problem

Victoza and Saxenda are both liraglutide. The molecule is the same; what differs is the indication and the top of the approved range. Victoza is approved for type 2 diabetes and goes up to 1.8 mg daily. Saxenda is approved for chronic weight management and goes up to 3.0 mg daily, moving one step a week through 0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4 and 3.0 mg.

The tracking problem is not the same as it is on a weekly compound. Liraglutide has a half-life of roughly 13 hours, so the level rises and falls inside each day rather than accumulating into a weekly plateau. That has two practical consequences. A missed day is visible almost immediately instead of blurring into the following week. There are also around thirty injections a month to keep straight rather than four. Memory is a worse tool for thirty events than for four, which is most of the case for writing them down.

It also changes what a pattern looks like. On a weekly drug you compare week to week. On a daily one you can line nausea, appetite or energy up against the individual days you actually injected, which is only possible if the days are recorded.
